How to Use Age Calculator

  1. Pick the date of birth in the date box.
  2. Click Calculate Age.
  3. Read the age in years, months and days, the total months, weeks, days and hours, and how long until the next birthday.

How the age is worked out

Age is counted the way people say it: completed years, then completed months, then the remaining days, comparing your birth date with today's date on your own device. Month lengths and leap years are taken into account. The totals (weeks, days, hours) count every day since you were born; hours are whole days times 24, not a clock-accurate count.

Dates are read as calendar dates in your own time zone, so the result doesn't shift by a day depending on where you are.

Birthdays on 29 February

If you were born on a leap day, this calculator treats 28 February as your birthday in years without a 29 February, both for your age and for the countdown. Different countries treat leap-day birthdays differently for legal purposes (some use 1 March), so check the rule that applies to you if it matters.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I calculate age on a date other than today?

Not with this tool; it measures to today. To count between any two dates, use the Date Difference Calculator.

Why does it say my birthday is today?

Because it is! On your birthday the countdown shows today instead of a year away.

Does it account for leap years?

Yes. Real calendar dates are used, so leap years and month lengths are handled.

Is my date of birth stored?

No. The calculation runs in your browser and nothing is saved or sent anywhere.
