What gets counted
Every character counts, including spaces, punctuation and line breaks. The no-spaces figure leaves out spaces, tabs and line breaks. One thing to be aware of: most emoji count as 2 here, because computers store them as two code units. X and some other sites have their own counting rules for emoji and links, so treat the X meter as a close guide rather than the final word.
The limits in the meters
X allows 280 characters for a standard post. A single SMS holds 160 characters of plain text; longer messages are split into parts. Google doesn't have fixed limits for search results because it measures in pixels, but titles over about 60 characters and descriptions over about 160 are often shortened, which is why those are the targets shown.

Do spaces count as characters?
