Verify if a word, phrase, or number reads the same backward as forward.
A palindrome reads the same in both directions once you ignore the bits that don't count. The checker removes spaces and punctuation, makes everything lowercase and strips accents (so é counts as e), then compares the text with its reverse. 'Was it a car or a cat I saw?' becomes wasitacaroracatisaw, which is the same backwards.
Letters and digits from any alphabet are kept, so you can check words in Hindi, Russian or Greek as well as English. If nothing is left after cleaning, for example only symbols, there's nothing to compare and no verdict is shown.
Classic sentence palindromes include "A man, a plan, a canal: Panama", "Was it a car or a cat I saw?", "Never odd or even" and "Madam, in Eden, I'm Adam". Single words include level, radar, rotor, civic and the name of the language Malayalam.
Numbers work the same way: 12321 and 9009 are palindromes, and so are some dates written without separators, such as 12-02-2021 (12022021). Try your own phone number or birthday.
