How WPM and accuracy are calculated
Words per minute uses the standard definition: every five characters you type, spaces included, count as one word, divided by the minutes since you started. Accuracy is the share of characters that match the passage. The test ends when you've typed as many characters as the passage has, even if some are wrong, so mistakes lower your accuracy but never leave you stuck. Pasting is turned off so the result reflects real typing.
What's a good typing speed?
Around 40 WPM is typical for adults who type regularly, 60 to 70 is fast, and professional typists often reach 80 or more. Accuracy matters as much as speed: fixing mistakes costs time, so aim for 95% or better and let speed come with practice. Short daily sessions improve both faster than occasional long ones.
